Our new premium Norwegian welted hiking boot is a vintage design with the Sweeney Vintage treatment. The boots are washed in giant machines before hand colouring, polishing and antique finishing by hand. This gives the brown calf leather uppers an instantly worn-in, ‘old favourites’ appeal. The Norwegian welt is a favoured construction for hikers, as it provides extra stability and protection, with the leather welt covering the join between the upper and the sole. We've opted for a durable commando sole with a cleated tread. As you'd expect we've included a full, calf leather lining and padded insock.

Love the look, could/should be better

I’m new to Oliver Sweeney, so wasn’t sure what to expect.
The good:
They look great
Appear well made- Stitching nice and neat
Roomy forefoot
The antiquing and finishing is well done
Comfortable under foot
Came with nice boot bag

The “could be better”:
The tongue should be gusseted. Even if meant more as a fashion boot than a truly durable hiking boot it would help keep the tongue in place. After a walk with my dog I noticed the tongue had moved enough to expose a bit of my sock on the inner notch. This just should not happen. (My socks were a not particularly thick cotton rag )
The leather is a bit thin for this price point in my opinion. I was wearing an old pair of boots made with Horween Essex leather earlier and a single layer of that leather is thicker than the outer and lining combined for the Burford. Personally I’d rather they skip the antiquing and use better leather. Or do both and charge more. I would be fine with that. In the $500 plus price range I expect durability and I’m not certain the upper here has it - hopefully it will be fine.
Thicker leather would also make the cuff area more comfortable. Tied tight I get a little bit of a pressure point from the speed hooks.
Laces seem cheap

Sizing pretty standard for boots. Though a half size smaller than my Paraboot Avoriaz they are roomier.
