Bampton Brown-swatch

Our Bampton moccasin boot wraps the upper leather under the foot, increasing flexibility and comfort. The leather is then sealed on the top of the foot with an apron seam. The upper is made from soft calf suede with a calf leather trim around the base and top of the boot with a leather back pull tab. To complement the moccasin theme, we’ve included a choice of leather strip laces as well as cotton. Inside, the boot is fully leather lined with an additional cushioned leather heel pad. The upper is Blake stitched to a leather welt and cemented to an off white Vibram sole.

Good but construction a little eccentric

I like these boots but I am a little confused about the construction. They are supposed to be traditional moccasin construction which wraps leather under the foot to form a footbed but when you look into the boot it has a fabric liner in contact with the foot which seems to be stitched down the middle (like a strobel stitched trainer with the insole removed) which could irritate the foot. Then there is a blake stitch (as described) through the footbed and which presumably goes into the hidden part of the wide welt under the footbed. However there is an additional line of (somewhat wavy) stitching which is visible on the outside of the welt but doesn't seem to do anything as there doesn't seem to be a midsole.
Having said that, the boots are comfortable if a little rough around the edges as far as finishing is concerned (but certainly not a problem at the sale price) and with the extremely wide welt and sole on my pair of size 13s provide a very stable platform. Plus they are big enough to accept an orthotic which makes the earlier comment about the stitching up the centre of the footbed a non-issue for me.
I only received the very long leather laces but it is easy enough to source fabric laces if the leather ones prove annoying.
They're definitely a bit different from any of the other boots in my collection.

Very comfortable

Not sure why I should be surprised but these were an extremely good fit, and very comfortable straight out of the box! My wife liked the picture of the boots on the website and said I should buy them. I don't always do what I'm told but glad I took her "˜advice' on this occasion.

Almost Good

These Bamtons are designed using the Red Wing Moc Toe as a starting point. They are lighter, less workman like softer than the Red Wings. The Moc Toes also seem too hard and high for leisure use, despite loads of film stars running around in them.
I like the white Vibram sole on the Bamtons and the boots do look good.
There is not enough padding in the heel, ankle area. This is a serious flaw.
The eyelets for the laces are at least one size too small, and the leather laces supplied, are both far too long and have very poor utility, despite looking good. My concerns is that the fabric laces required will be too thick for these smaller eyelets to accept decent laces,
Having cut 18" or so off the leather laces I am losing patience with these leather ones.
Good looking boots with quite a few design flaws
